Check in with Janine Pettit’s habit of Celebrating Mother’s Day at the Campground! She shared here story on GoRVing.com. This annual gathering began when the author and her friends from New Jersey and Pennsylvania found Mother’s Day weekend as the only time they could meet, leading them to forgo traditional celebrations in favor of a relaxing camping trip.

The weekend is intentionally kept low-key, with activities focused on relaxation and enjoying each other’s company. Friday evenings feature a shared appetizer meal, with each participant bringing a favorite dish, such as the author’s crowd-pleasing layered hummus dip. Saturday is dedicated to activities that everyone enjoys, such as hiking, kayaking, or exploring antique shops, followed by a “BYOP” (bring your own protein) dinner where everyone grills their choice of meat. The night concludes with drinks and conversation around the campfire.

A communal breakfast, often featuring new and creative campfire recipes, accompanied by mimosas and laughter, highlights Sunday mornings. The relaxed atmosphere of the campground allows the women to unwind and appreciate time with friends, making this unconventional Mother’s Day celebration a highly anticipated event each year. The tradition emphasizes simplicity, connection, and the joy of doing what they love.
