Best Blanket – Hands Down is the Woobie

Dec 5, 2021 | 0 comments

My favorite blanket is The Woobie. I would recommend it to everyone, camper or not. It will be your “go to blanket” for any occasion be it camping, backpacking, or just sitting in your living room watching TV. I keep mine in my vehicle all winter in the case of an emergency.

The Woobie is a military poncho liner invented during the Vietnam War. It consists of a polyester filling sandwiched with nylon and sewn up the sides and crosswise to ensure durability. Soft, cozy & lightweight, weighing less than 2lbs, it’s hard to believe this little piece of quick drying fabric could be so important to a soldier. Ask any veteran and they will speak affectionately of their Woobies. I would be willing to bet many of them still have them long after their uniforms were retired.

Woobies can be purchased from army/Navy stores, some camping stores or on-line. It will be money well spent and make for great gifts for friends.

When you leave the warmth of the evening campfire and return to your tent or RV the temperatures can drop like a stone. That’s when you reach for your Woobie; it’s like bringing the campfire back inside with you. If you are looking for a blanket that takes very little room get yourself a Woobie and don’t leave home without it!
