Oh, so easy and great to plan ahead and bring and bake in a Dutch Oven! This Dutch Over Chocolate Cherry Cake is my go-to camping desert.
At home, I prepare the cake mix, following the directions on the box and place in a plastic container to bring.
Next, I mix the softened cream cheese and blend sugar, 1 egg, vanilla, and place in a plastic container and bring along one can of cherry pie filling.
Ingredients:
1 – Chocolate cake mix, prepared as directed
1 – 8 oz. package of soften cream cheese
3 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 – 20 oz. can cherry pie filling
When you are the campground get your coals ready. Line the Dutch oven with parchment paper, pour cake mix in, spoon in cherry pie filling and spoon in cream cheese mixture.
Bake using 8-10 coals on bottom and 14 on top, be sure to turn every 15 minutes to cook evenly. Everyone loves this for dessert after a long day of kayaking or hiking!
