Until about five years ago, my idea of camping was staying in a hotel without room service. I’m sure you’ve heard that one before, but I’m serious! One incredible weekend on the water on a windjammer sailboat changed EVERYTHING for me. I realized that not only could I BE “outside,” and STAY “outside,” but I LOVED being out in the fresh air, and learning how to do every day tasks without the comforts of being at home. I found it all to be very challenging – but in the best possible way, and as an (almost) empty-nester with more time on her hands, this future Girl Camper decided to seek out more opportunities to be outside. Naturally, camping seemed like the next logical step!
Fast forward six years, five tents, four different sleeping configurations, seven different cooking situations and a chandelier (yes, you read that correctly), and here I am! While I would never claim to have it all figured out, I am continually trying new things, and learning which products and set-ups work best for me. I know that I like to be warm in cool temps, cool in warm temps, as comfortable as possible when I sleep, and safe when I venture out on my own with my fellow Girl Campers. I don’t think that’s too much for any of us to ask! The key is thinking of your personal needs, doing a little research, creating a plan, and getting out there!
If you have always thought about trying a new adventure – like camping – I promise you that you will find the motivation, strength and passion to following that dream within the realm of Girl Camper. Here, you will learn that it is never too late to try something new. And whether you car, truck, van, bus, tent, trailer or cabin camp, there really is “no wrong way to camp like a girl!”
