Land Between The Lakes

Land Between the Lakes is exactly what it sounds like. A piece of land that splits two of Kentucky’s largest lakes. In fact it’s the largest inland peninsula in the United States. Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley are located in Western Kentucky extending into Northern Tennessee. These lakes were created in the mid 1900’s when dams were built for both the Cumberland and Tennessee rivers. Although several towns were flooded in the process it was in effort to create electricity and prevent flooding.

There are a large number of campgrounds in the area including Canal, Hillman’s Ferry, Wranglers, and several more. It’s a fisherman’s paradise and a nature lover’s dream with ample boating and hiking. You can grab a famous pork chop from Patti’s 1800 Settlement, drive through the Elk and Bison Prairie , visit the Woodlands Nature Station, or take a dip at Venture River Water Park. There is always plenty to do at LBL. Even if you just prefer to relax, the views from your campsite are amazing!

Land between the lakes is awesome. So many beautiful things to see and yes, the wildlife is very cool. Patti’s has great food and I hope to go back there sometime soon on one of my girl camper solo expeditions.
