This tiny town is world-renowned as the mecca of antique shopping, the largest antiques show in the world, and it happens in one of the smallest towns you can imagine. Round Top, Texas with a population of 90, is home to The Round Top Antiques Show hosted twice a year. The fall 2020 show marks the 51st year of this ever-growing phenomena.
The Round Top Antiques Show is over two weeks of more than 100,000 people, from all over the globe, flocking to the roadside fields, permanent structures, and temporary tents filled with one-of-a-kind finds, relics, clothing, vintage everything, festival food and drinks, and creators and crafters from all over the nation. There is quite possibly nothing you won’t find among the miles and miles of road-side venues. It is a sight to behold and an insane adventure that thousands plan their yearly treks to the countryside just to be able to participate in.
You have to look up as well as down in every pop-up you enter. Boutique-style clothing and shabby chic decor
Growing up in Brenham, I’ve been attending the antiques show since I was a little girl. It has grown leaps and bounds. It is a family tradition of ours and is how I first introduced my daughter, Ella, to antiquing. One of her favorite spots is La Bahia (just as you turn on to Hwy 237 from Hwy 290 coming from Houston or Austin). She has found countless treasures there including beautiful James Avery retired jewelry for only a few dollars. As an infant, I once carried her in a Baby Bjorn to this very location searching for vintage smocked dresses for her upcoming pictures.
My budding artist, Ella, finding decor for her college dorm. Ella’s vintage clothing finds!
My mother and I make sure to attend another favorite location, Blue Hills, every year where we enjoy a BBQ lunch and homemade peach cobbler by The Methodist Men. They have one of the best outside dining options among tents and barns of countless treasures. In fact, last year, I found my breakfast room table and couch side tables from Latitudes, a company specializing in reclaimed furniture from Western Asia.
Antique doors galore! Wall o Pom Pom Blankets This is my new kitchen table.
There is truly something for everyone along Hwy 237. I want as many girl campers as possible to have a Round Top experience and as your Southeast Texas Girl Camper Guide, I will be planning a novel Girl Camper event to be announced very soon. Be sure to follow my page and join our group for information forthcoming. I promise you; it will be an experience you won’t want to miss!
