Girl Camper Arizona pitched a tent at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park’s first-time camping event. Tents by the Tracks – a chance to camp in the city park. Unlimited free train and carousel rides ran until 9 PM. Included is a family-style BBQ & a grab n’ go breakfast.
This 30-acre Park, located in the heart of Scottsdale, Arizona, is operated by the city of Scottsdale’s Parks & Recreation Department. More than a million guests come to enjoy over 200 years of railroad history.
The check-in event packet contained wristbands, meal vouchers, an activity map, and flashlights. Off we went to explore! Giant size yard games, museum visits, general stores, and train shed tours had us looking around every bend. Tents were spaced to ensure social distancing between groups. Hand sanitizing stations were available throughout the event area. Masks were required when not at the campsite.
Meal vouchers were redeemed at the Stillman Ramada. Special Events Coordinator Darryl and the friendly park staff prepared the picnic. The camp-style BBQ was a hit! My favorite was the chicken sandwich – tasty!
Sitting outside our tent, we watched the outdoor movie at sunset. We were enjoying three different types of popcorn provided by the Park. The train whistle at 9 PM signals the last ride for the night. Lights out at 11 PM. What an unforgettable day!

That is so cool. My daughter was born and raised in Phoenix and I’ve been to that park many times. I didn’t know about this event at the time. But I hope to attend many events in the future. My first will be this weekend at Dairy Springs campground.
