It’s funny you can live some place your whole life and never pay attention to some of the greatest things it has to offer. The Kentucky Horse Park is one of those obvious gems I took for granted until I started camping. Located on the outskirts of Lexington, near Georgetown, KHP is nestled in the rolling hills and horse country we’ve become famous for.
The Kentucky Horse Park is easily accessible sitting only ¾ mile off I-75. At under $40 a night it offers over 200 awesomely spacious paved sites with water and electric. There is also a section with electric only and an incredibly large primitive area. Its amenities include a beautiful pool, playground, basketball courts, pavilion, camp store, clean bathhouses, and access to the Kentucky Horse Park. Bring your bikes and jump on the Legacy Trail at the campground entrance and ride or walk a few miles towards town to find local restaurants, breweries, and shopping. Like to fish? Catch your dinner at the KHP pond stocked with Trout, Pan fish, and Catfish.
There is never a lack of entertainment while camping here. Whether it be The Rolex Three Day Event, Vintage Market Days, or a Good Guys car show, KHP is lush with events and activities that are literally a hop, skip, and a jump away from your campsite. You can check out the Hall of Champions or take a tour through the Big Barn where all the massive draft horses reside. Take a trail ride or just walk the grounds and take in all it’s beauty. I just love everything about this place and hope you will too! KHP receives 4.8 out of 5 smores
