This Veterans Day, November 11, 2022, will be the first since Congress passed legislation granting free lifetime national park passes to eligible veterans and Gold Star families. This link will take you to more information about this program and how to obtain a free national park pass: https://www.nps.gov/planyourvisit/veterans-and-gold-star-families-free-access.htm
There are meaningful experiences waiting for veterans and all Americans in the national parks this month and beyond! Many of our national parks commemorate our veterans with monuments to ensure that their brave actions live on in our memories—like the African American Civil War Memorial and the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial at the National Mall and Memorial Parks in Washington, DC. Other parks preserve the hallowed grounds where veterans served and fought to preserve our country, on sites including the Antietam National Battlefield in Maryland and Manassas National Battlefield Park in Virginia.
Wherever you choose to travel, and camp, recognizing and honoring the men and women who served is an important part of our past, our present and our future.
Here is a list from South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs of events, activities and memorials honoring those from the Palmetto State. https://scdva.sc.gov/news/2022-10/2022-veterans-day-events
