With Mother’s Day upon us, I feel compelled to introduce my amazing mom to my Girl Camper friends. My mom, like yours, is the most special, wonderful and incredible person I know. Aren’t all moms? When my mom was 82, she had a rough time with her health and was in the hospital for a long time. When she was able to go home, she could no longer live alone so the safest place for her to be was someplace where she would have constant care. She lost her home, her car and even her dog. But my mom is no quitter and she decided that she was going to get better, and she did!

In 2015 we broke my mom out of her assisted living facility and moved her to Colorado to live with me. She has chronic COPD and must be on oxygen all of the time, but she has flourished here and we have made a point to do as much together as possible while we still can. One of those things is camping. I bought my first camper and named it after my mom, but when she got here we needed a larger camper with a potty for those nighttime trips, and she named it after her dad. Chester, a 1967 Fireball Meteor, joined our family and we have been having fun with him ever since. He’s taken us places we never dreamed we would go together!

I’m extremely blessed to have so many wonderful memories with my mom. And in honor of Mother’s Day I want to share some of those with you. Maybe you have the privilege of camping with your mom, or living close by and sharing precious time with her. If so, you are blessed as well because everybody knows that she’s the best mom in the world! Happy Mother’s Day to my mom Nicky… and to all of the moms creating wonderful memories for your children just like she still is for me!
