Shari grew up camping and learning about the out of doors through the Girl Scout movement in the 60’s and 70’s. “Camping with my scout troop took me backpacking through the mountains of Wyoming, sailing on Texas lakes and the Gulf of Mexico, hiking in Mexico at an international Girl Scout camp and eventually led me to become a troop leader, adult trainer and camp director. There is nothing better than sharing your skills and adventures with others.”
Fast forward about 40 years and Shari still has her sense of adventure. Though she has continued to tent camp when backpacking or hiking, the dream of owning a vintage finally became a reality in 2015 when she bought a 1969 Scotty camper. She found that since it was so small, it was the perfect camper for learning all of the camper basics like hitching up, towing, backing up, leveling and setting up camp.
Shari and her good friend Sharon founded the group Rocky Mountain Glampers, a group on Facebook to meet others who enjoyed camping and glamping and being outdoors in their beautiful state of Colorado.
They wanted it to be a place where everyone could share ideas and learn from each other about the wonderful world of camping. In 2016, Shari’s 85 year old mother moved to Colorado to live with her. That also meant they would be able to camp together, and that meant Shari needed a larger camper with indoor plumbing! Together they found a 1967 Fireball Meteor camper, had it rebuilt and named it ‘Chester’ after her mom’s dad! Chester is the perfect camper for sharing adventures together, which they do as often as possible. Now 87 years young, Nicky might be one of the oldest Girl Campers out there!
Shari moved to Colorado in 2000 and enjoys everything this beautiful state has to offer. So whether it’s camping in the mountains, on the wide open plains, along the shore of a clear Rocky Mountain river, or near a crystal blue lake… every Girl Camper is invited to come and camp in Colorado! Be advised though… you might not want to leave!
