At the North Texas event Campfires and Dutch Ovens in Jan/Feb 2025, we did a lot of Dutch Oven cooking. One of our meals was a potluck dinner. That afternoon, one of the campers, Jerri Bartos delighted us all with warm, gooey, sugary goodness – Monkey Bread that she made in her Dutch Oven. It was delish and we all had to have some!

Next time you are camping, don’t hesitate to get out your Dutch Oven and make this wonderful breakfast or dessert treat for your fellow Girl Campers, family or friends.

We usually had a fire going in the fire pit because it was a cold weekend, so we used the large foil pans to heat up the charcoal briquets and do our Dutch Oven cooking.

Dutch Oven Monkey Bread

12-inch 6 quart Dutch Oven

Prepare the charcoal briquets for 350 degrees. Use approximately 25 coals – 17 on top and 8 on bottom.

½ c sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

Mix together in a gallon Ziploc bag.

2 cans Pillsbury Grands

Cut each biscuit into quarters; add to the Ziploc bag with the cinnamon sugar. Coat all biscuit quarters.

1 stick of butter

Slice and melt in the warming Dutch Oven.

1 c brown sugar

½ c chopped walnuts

Mix the brown sugar and walnuts into the melter butter. Layer the biscuit quarters in the Dutch Oven.

Bake for 30 minutes.

When done, remove the DO lid and place a foil lined pizza pan, tray or large pan over the Dutch Oven. Turn the Dutch Oven over and remove so that the monkey bread is now on the foil lined pan/tray. ENJOY!!

Thanks to Jerri Bartos for sharing this delicious treat and recipe!
