When I shared this article on the Northern California Chapter page, it wasn’t long before I received an email from someone who was inspired to visit a wildlife refuge auto tour. She had a wonderful time and sent me a few photos from her trip.

Have you researched the closest wildlife refuges in your area? They don’t all have auto tours, but if there is one close to you, I think you’ll enjoy the experience. I recommend you go as soon as it opens or in the last two hours of daylight. The birds are very active then and the light is good for taking pictures. There are pull out spaces so you can pull off the gravel road and take your time and let others pass.

Drive slowly so you don’t spook the birds and other wildlife.
