Ginny McKinney shares some insights about her latest RV choice, a 2021 Jayco JayFlight SLX7 183RB, her sixth RV!
Why did you buy this particular RV?
I needed something that was lightweight and easy to tow with my aging truck. Jayco has always been a reliable and reputable company that builds sound products. I was especially drawn to the floorplan, and the slide out is a total game changer!
How did you come to purchase this RV?
The last camper we had did not make me happy. I pulled it cross country alone, in the rain, and I was miserable when I got home. The Jayco was sitting in the front yard of a neighbor with a “For Sale” sign on it. She wanted to sell quickly because her husband had passed away and she felt she couldn’t camp alone. I encouraged her to try, but she was adamant. The price was right, so I scooped it up.

What makes you happy about this RV?
This camper just makes me smile every time I look at it. The only thing I did not like about it was the dinette. It was awkward to get in and out of at my age (70), and I felt a reclining loveseat would be perfect in the slide. We found one on sale at a local dealership that fit perfectly. I removed the dinette and installed the loveseat by myself! Well, my husband helped with lifting and maneuvering the bottom half of the recliners through the door, but I did everything else. I also bought a memory foam mattress for added comfort.
Do you camp with anyone else?
I love to camp solo. When I was a new widow (in 2013), I bought my first camper and took off in the wilderness and backroads of Colorado by myself for three months to heal. This led to me find other like-minded women to camp with and I met Janine Pettit at the Country Living Fair in Nashville. I still love to camp solo, but I have met many lifelong friends through camping with other women. I love to teach newcomers and support the bereaved who seek comfort in the woods. I remarried five years ago to my best friend from high school and he loves camping, too.

What else would you like us to know about your camping style?
I camp like a girl! I love all the creature comforts that Jayco provides, with a great floorplan, the added room of a slide out, a full bathroom with a bathtub, and a very “cook-able” kitchen. When I add colorful dishes and 800-thread-count sheets, I am a Camping Queen!
