Fishing on our Great Lakes is a bucket list adventure. Fortunately, being friends with a Lake Michigan Fishing Charter Captain has its perks. After experiencing it once, I had to go back for more. Not only do we reap the rewards with fish to take home, we have excellent conversations and good company while on the boat.
Captain Glenn
I met Captain Glenn, the owner of Livin’ the Dream Fishing Charters, LLC, back in early 2023. He operates out of the Port Washington Marina in Wisconsin. He answered all of our questions and made us feel comfortable.
My first two Lake Michigan fishing charters were with my husband, dad, brother, and sister-in-law. The first charter was at 5:00 AM. Not going to lie, I was not prepared to be a on a boat, a few miles from shore, before dawn. The sunrise was beautiful, but I did not earn my sea legs yet. In other words, I was hanging off the side of the boat, sicker than ever. We did catch quite a few fish, though. So the experience could have been worse. The second charter was in the afternoon. I was prepared this time for the motion sickness. I was determined not to get sick! All went well and we caught six fish. I can proudly say I earned my sea legs!
Fishing Chater FAQ’s:
- How long is the average charter?
- Approximately 5 hours
- When does the clock start?
- Depends on the charter, but Captain Glenn starts the clock when the first line hits the water. Therefore, you’re out for closer to 6 hours.
- Do we have to touch the fish?
- Not if you don’t want to. There are fish hooks you can use to hold your catch(es) for that picture perfect moment.
- Do we get to keep the fish we catch?
- Yes!
- Do I have to clean the fish myself?
- No, the Captain and his First Mate will take care of cleaning, fileting, and bagging up your catch(es).
- I’ve never fished before. What skill level do I need to be at to do this?
- Newbies to advanced. Anyone is welcome!
- You do need a valid fishing license and Great Lakes trout stamp, though.
- What if I have to use the bathroom while we’re out on the water?
- This is my favorite question, but no worries! There’s a bathroom on the boat!
