When it comes to the perfect camping chair for your adventures, there is no ‘one size fits all’.  There are dozens of options from a $1-yard sale bargains to an ergonomically perfect chair costing in the hundreds of dollars. Which one is right for you?  You’ll need to do your homework and perhaps take a few ‘test sits’ to find the right fit for your comfort and your budget.

If vintage is your thing and you’re a purist, then you’re in luck! There are aluminum folding chairs like the ones you (or your parents or grandparents) grew up with. You know the ones – with brightly colored webbing that could be replaced as it wore out or wasted away after sitting in the sun for years on end.  Personally, these are my favorite because they are inexpensive, and I find them perfectly comfortable. Not to mention, they go with my vintage camper decor! Check yard sales and vintage stores to find bargain chairs for $1 to $25!

Umbrella Chair

If you prefer a more streamlined chair, one that you can unfold and then melt into, you might find the umbrella style chairs are the right fit for you.  You can get them for bargain prices at most big box stores and they come in a variety of colors and styles.  Some have cup holders built into the armrests, while others have a fold-out canopy to provide built-in shade!  Check Target and Walmart for new colors each year.  I saw one with a cute llama print fabric this year for only $9.99!

The minimalist Girl Camper has lots of options too!  Check out the super lightweight REI Co-Op Flexlite chair weighing in just under 2 lbs.  You’ll have to make a few compromises with this lightweight and packable chair, including features (say goodbye to a cup holder).  This chair is shorter than most and is much lower to the ground, but it makes up for its lack of luxury features with its portability and super lightweight! REI price:  $80.

If you long for the comforts of home and a camp chair that rocks, check out the GCI Outdoor Freestyle Rocker.  This chair has a spring action tube at the back of the chair, so you can ‘rock’ back and forth as you’re enjoying the beauty of nature from your campsite.  When you’re ready to load up you can fold the chair easily by using the handle to fold it flat.  No need for a stuff sack either!  You have the option of a non-rocking version of the GCI chair too. My mom has that one and loves it!  Check out large outdoor retailers in the $65 price range.
