Girl Camper Guide - Wisconsin

Jess Nessler

Ope! ‘Scuse me! Hello fellow Girl Campers. My name is Jess Nessler and my home base (Watertown, WI) is nestled between Milwaukee and Madison. It’s a small city of about 22,000 people. I’ve lived in and camped throughout Wisconsin my whole life.

You could say that I am a woman who wears many hats. By day, I am a driving instructor and administrator for my company. By night, which is where my true passions lie, I am a total adventurer, traveler, explorer, camper, hiker, student, and teacher. I love to learn new things, take what I’ve learned, and pass it on to others.

I love to play music, sing, draw, design, and cook. Luckily, I can do many of those things while camping! I am also majorly into houseplants. I do have several pets (cats, dogs, lizards), but I do not typically take them with me when I travel. Camping and traveling, for me, is a way to escape reality for a bit and curb my responsibilities. Thank God for my amazing husband who holds down the fort when I’m off on one of my adventures. Oh and my in-laws are a huge help with house sitting when the hubby joins me.

I am 100% a “tenter” all-the-way! As a tyke, my parents had a popup camper and my grandparents had this huge Holiday Rambler trailer. Lots of memories were made in many different states. In 2020, my husband and I bought our first camper together. It was a used Starcraft hybrid. We enjoyed one season in it, then we were made an offer we couldn’t refuse. With the amount of repairs needed for that thing, we sold it on the spot. So back to tenting it, but I couldn’t be happier. I do have a dream camper, though. It would be a 13’ Standard Scamp, but I really can’t see myself in anything but my tent in the foreseeable future.

Anyway, enough about me! What is your favorite go-to spot in the great state of Wisconsin?! Come explore it with me!
