So, you’ve bought your first RV—congratulations, new RV owner! You’re officially part of a club that values freedom, campfires, and morning coffee with a view. But before you hit the road, you might be wondering: What in the world do I actually need to pack? As someone who’s been there (and has helped plenty of Girl Campers get started), I’m here to walk you through the basics with a little less overwhelm and a little more confidence.

Let’s break it down.

RV Setup Essentials:

This is the gear that makes your RV functional at a campground. Don’t leave home without:

  • A water pressure regulator and drinking-safe fresh water hose
  • A good sewer hose kit (bonus points for a clear elbow connector so you know when it’s clean)
  • Disposable gloves (trust me)
  • Leveling blocks and wheel chocks to keep your rig steady
  • A surge protector and the correct power cord adapter for your amp rating (30 or 50)

Inside the RV:

You’ll want your rolling home to feel cozy and functional:

  • RV-friendly kitchen gear like nesting pots, a non-stick skillet, dish soap, and a drying mat
  • Proper RV toilet paper and tank treatments (regular TP can cause clogs!)
  • A small broom or handheld vacuum, paper towels, and all-purpose wipes
  • Linens, towels, and RV-sized bedding—your mattress may be a unique size
  • First-aid kit, flashlights or headlamps, and a few extra batteries

Outdoor Comforts:

This is where RV life really shines. You’ll want:

  • Camp chairs and an outdoor rug to keep dirt out of the rig
  • A small folding table or tray
  • Bug spray, sunscreen, and maybe a citronella candle or two
  • Fire starting materials! What’s a camping trip without a campfire?

And don’t forget…

  • A small toolkit with basics: screwdriver, wrench, duct tape, fuses
  • Your registration, insurance, and printed campground info (not everywhere has cell service!)

RVing is a learning curve—but it’s also a joy. You’ll find your rhythm as you go. Start with the basics, pack what makes you comfortable, and don’t stress about perfection.

You’ve got this, my friend. I’ll see you out there. 💛
