Full moons are steeped in magic, mystery, and folklore.  Since ancient times, full moons have often been linked to witches, werewolves, odd behavior, increased levels of illegal activity, and violence.  They are also a sign of healing, fertility, spiritual observances, and a signal from the universe at large that the lunar cycle has been completed.

In schools, nursing homes, hospitals and police stations, the full moon often represents a time of increase friction and intense emotional energy.  You may often hear colleagues comment, “well, it is a full moon” to explain the shift in karmic energy.

A full moon occurs when the Earth is directly between the Sun and Moon so that the moon looks completely illuminated. It happens about once a month or, every 29.53 days on average.  The tides are linked to the lunar cycle as well and it is not uncommon for water levels to rise during a full moon.

In 2023 there will be 13 full moons with one full moon per month except August when there will be two full moons.  If you live in South Carolina or are visiting the area, make a reservation for a Full Moon Hike at Sesquicentennial State Park on January 6, 6-8 p.m.  This two-mile hike is led by a ranger.  Learn more at https://southcarolinaparks.com/products/10004937.
