My Old Kentucky Home Campground and State Park

The Park

Nestled right outside of downtown Bardstown, My Old Kentucky Home Campground is a little slice of heaven. Small and unapologetically rustic, it hosts a modest forty sites both paved and gravel. Thirty-five electric/water, five full hook-ups, and 16 primitive first come first serve. It is the perfect location sitting just under 2 miles from the adorable downtown area and was the first place we camped after the purchase of our travel trailer in 2016.

Amenities

This state park runs $25 a night or $175 per week. Their amenities include a small but adequate bathhouse, ice, firewood, fire rings, a dump station, and picnic tables. It sets in the middle of Kenny Rapier Golf Course and clubhouse. It is wonderfully shaded which I love, especially since I travel with my dog. She loves it too since they offer daily or weekly passes to a fantastic dog park just across the road.

Check-In and

Prmitive

You will check in at the guard shack at the entrance which is manned seven days a week. However if no one is there you can proceed to your reserved site marked with a yellow tag , or if you don’t have reservations, simply pick an unmarked site. Upon entry you will see the primitive side to your left along with a small playground. These sites have picnic tables, fire rings, and sit in a grassy well shaded area. There is a narrow paved road to drive to your site and it is first come first serve.

My Thoughts

If I had any negatives it would be that the sites can be unlevel and you will need an additional water hose and extension cord to reach the utilities. My most recent stay was in site 00 which fit my 22 foot Mini Springdale perfectly. It is the only site on that facing side and looks towards the road and a fenced gas tank. I didn’t mind because I had so much room and a great side yard. I think this campground may not be for everyone, but I absolutely love it.  There is so much to do within 20 minutes including  Bourbon tours, Bernheim Forest, My Old Kentucky Home, and much more! I’m looking forward to hosting a Girl Camper event here in 2022! My top pick for sites – 22, 8, 00, 1, 2, 10, 11, 16, 17, 7 ,4

I spent my 2nd camping trip there last year with my husband. Great time but April was cold and wet.
