Girl Camper VP of Operations, Lesa McDermott, tells us about her latest camper, a 2023 Little Guy Micro Max. She has owned several different kinds of RVs, but this is her first small teardrop.

What else have you owned?

My husband and I have a Keystone Montana 5th wheel that we use as a guest house on our property and occasionally for long trips. Our Sprinter Camper Van we use mostly in the winter to “stealth” camp at ski resorts. The last camper I had was a Forest River R-Pod 177 that I sold to a friend. While I hated to sell it, its GVWR was too close to my Jeep Wrangler’s 3,500 tow capacity.

Why did you buy this particular RV?

I picked the Micro Max because it is easy to tow with my Jeep Wrangler with its weight of only 1,860 pounds. I also like that I can stand up in it, that it has a short queen size bed, tons of storage and an extra sitting area.  Its small teardrop profile keeps it from getting bounced around on windy days and means it can easily fit in smaller campsites. It’s perfect for boondocking as it has solar, 15-inch off-road tires and extra 3.5-inch lift for added clearance. Little Guy has a reputation for quality built trailers and the Micro is no exception.

Girl Camper has had a long relationship with Little Guy and I fell in love with the Micro at the Boston RV show. I reached out to them about becoming a brand ambassador and they agreed. So I picked up my Micro directly from their factory in Somerset, Pennsylvania in April 2023.

Bright décor makes the Little Guy cheerful.

What makes you happy about this RV?

I love the Micro. I feel like I can just “grab and go” with it. It pulls like a dream. I have it decorated with so many bright and fun things that reflect my bohemian style. I also love how easy it is to camp off-grid in it. Thanks to GoPower Solar, I upgraded the solar on the Micro to a 300-amp hour lithium battery and 380 watt solar panels. While it has no bathroom, I haven’t missed it. Camco’s RV toilet bucket with seat and lid fit great under the bed. True to my Leave No Trace philosophy, I use wood pellets in it that are environmentally friendly.

Do you camp with anyone else?

Occasionally with my husband Karl. But mostly it’s just me meeting up with other Girl Campers. I’ve converted the main dinette into a permanent queen size bed with super comfortable bedding from RV Mattress. I often travel with at least one. My dog Bandit is almost always with me. Sometimes my mini goldendoodle Zoey goes. too. In 2024, my new cat Zen will also be traveling with me.

What else would you like us to know about your camping style?

I’d like to think I’m a minimalist camper with a bo-ho style. When I first got my Micro, I replaced the black stripes on the exterior with sunset colored ones. I also recovered the seat cushions inside. I removed the microwave, so I could have more food storage since I primarily boondock.
