GIRL CAMPER CHAPTER
Massachusetts
Girl Camper Guide - Massachusetts
Kim Foley MacKinnon
Kim is a Boston-based travel and food journalist who covers escapes large and small for a number of publications, covering epic cross-country road trips to the best things to see, do, and eat in New England. For most of her life, she was a tent camper, with one of her most memorable camping adventures being a two-month-long coast-to-coast trip with an another adventurous friend, traveling only with a tent, lots of mixed tapes, gear from an Army-Navy store, and a desire to see as much of the country as possible. A close second to that road trip was one with her husband, daughter, and a friend to the Grand Canyon and back home in two weeks, cruising along Route 66, and detouring for roadside attractions whenever possible.
In 2020, Kim took a leap and bought a 1981 13-foot Scamp, having only seen it via video. She and her husband borrowed a friend’s truck that had a hitch, drove three hours to Maine to pick it up and then drove it home the same day. It was a life-changing purchase! Now with their own vehicle equipped with a proper hitch, lots of practice learning to back up into their uphill driveway, and several overnight learning adventures under their belts, the couple both know that tent camping is probably a thing of the past for them.
Kim has thoroughly enjoyed jumping into the RV world, learning the ins and outs of tiny trailers and couldn’t be more excited to experience Massachusetts and New England through a different lens, as a Girl Camper Chapter Guide. She is looking forwarding to hosting events, finding new campgrounds, making new friends, and as always, discovering the best local places to eat, not necessarily in that order!
I can’t wait to see you on the road!
